Assignment 13: Shutter Speed Studies
Take two photos for this assignment of an object or person in motion. Use the same object/person for both photos. One will be with a slow shutter speed, the other with a fast shutter speed. When you post the photos, label which is fast and which is slow. The slow shutter speed should show a blur of motion - and will probably require use of a tripod to keep the background crisp. The fast shutter speed should catch your subject clearly in motion, but in sharp focus.
1. If your entire photo is blurred or shows camera shake, don't submit it like that - reshoot it.
2. If your entire picture is way too dark or too light, don't submit it - experiment with adjusting the aperture (F-stops), the film speed, or the exposure settings to control the amount of light.
3. Always think about composition. Is there background clutter that is distracting? Do you have colors that work well together? Are there leading lines, is there a sense of rhythm, or are you using the rule of thirds?
Grading rubric: 6 points total
1 - Same subject for each photo
2 - Clear distinction between slow and fast shutter speeds
1 - proper labeling of which image was slow and which was fast
1 - focus
1 - composition (color, form, lines, attention to background
