2. One of you will find an example of what you think is a great poster design.
3. The other person will find an example of a badly designed poster.
4. Between the two of you, discuss what makes the one good, and the other bad.
5. One of you will post in the forum. Identify the other person working with you, link the two images, and respond with your critique of the positives and negatives of the two poster design.

Objectives: Learning to analyze, describe, and evaluate works of art.

EDIT: WE JUST FOUND OUT THATS A GUINEA PIG
OOPS
Worked with the  amazing Emma Frasier

Bad
Very basic layout too much things going on,Edges of the boxes are overlapping the others, the background is a bad jpg just bad in general. Not centered,Text effects don't feel right .The text colors not contrasting enough. Also the (hamster????) what the heck is it why does have a bald spot?? Did it go through some chronic stress disorder? What stories are told behind this image is it going to meet its parents because it cant afford to keep the rent up is this why its so stressed ?? We must know what this have to do with pigs in space???Did the pig eat the ear of this mammal is it trying to loose weight!?

Good
The concept is amazing starting with a main character but looking closer another thing is happening. The color harmony works amazingly along with the great quality its simple and gets to the point. The line of action from the tiger shows you where to look.

Bad Poster - Searched By Jasmine Johnson :

In this poster the colors don't go well together, there are too many layers of designs, the background takes over the main idea, and the layering of words make it confusing to what's going on.

Good Poster - Adriana Durnell :

The poster shows a touching subject, the colors are dark and gloomy which goes with the subject of the advertisement, it's simple but informative, it's legible, and the photo goes with what the sentence.

Bad: Extremely simplistic poster, which inspires no interest, other than why the movies promotional poster is so bad. A year and a question are the only text on the poster and are blatantly obvious attempts to spark interest in the conflict, which fell flat.

Good: This poster has several elements that draw in the observer very quickly and inspire interest. first of all; the face painted onto the wall, which incorporates the jokers look, as well as Batman's symbol. Secondly; the Jokers patented line "why so serious", which pushes the idea of classic movie ideals, as well as newer, bigger, better plots.

Bad-
It is bad because you don't understand what is happening, it's really confusing and you don't understand the point of the poster. It makes me want to, if it were on a wall, tear it down and burn it.
Good-
The poster is good because it is visually appealing and it uses different shapes to convey another image, describing the film without words. When I first saw this poster, it made me want to see the movie.

Josh Bennett was my partner. (Also we were the first to have batman poster)

Bad - The font is difficult to read and is badly contrasted. Everything is going on and it takes away from the text. Also the information is too small.

Good - Good contrast with the lettering. It focuses on what it needs to focus on, the main subject (the title) is in bold.

Bad Poster:

This poster is really bad because there is spelling and grammar errors, the photo was just screen captured and put on, the words overlap on the picture, and it's hard to read the bright text over the bright background. There is nothing positive to say about this poster.

Good Poster:

This is a good poster because they represent murder in a creative way using rose petals. It's very easy on the eyes and easy to read. Since only one part of the picture is colored, it draws your attention to that particular detail. It's well photo shopped and it's very clean.

Good: This is the good movie poster because it contains a striking contrast between the bright red petals and the dim, somber background and model. It doesn't have too much going on, but still tells you what it's about in a creative way. -Brys

Bad: It's bad because it doesn't indicate when the movie is coming out. I don't think the poster will attract the audience attention. -Dominique Bonds

-Bad poster
Everything clashes, the attention is the center it's really visually unappealing. The smile is unpleasant and it's not a horror movie so that definitely wasn't what it was aiming for.

-Good poster
There wasn't a lot of info on the item, but it was very simple and visually alluring, arising a curiosity on the topic of the poster. The concept is simple, smart, and easily understandable once given a look for a short amount of time, alluding to the items held in a digital space.

Bad cover

We dislike the cover and we think it was poorly made, we don't think it reveals enough about the movie as well.
Also when we think of the X-Men we think of a team of several different heroes with different abilities, and we think this cover itself could be much more than just a man in a wheel chair, and a face, the cover is also very poorly designed and scarce of detail.

Good cover

We like this cover, it shows the stars of the movie, as well as explaining their relationship with eachother just by looking at the cover, also you can easily tell it's a comedy movie. It's simple but good.

This is a bad poster. There's too much going on. This poster has a good concept, but it design is very over exaggerating. You don't need to have on 8 seatbelts to be safe. You can have on one and be just fine. So we dislike the poster because its stupid and the plot is over exaggerating.

This is a good poster. The message is good and there isn't too much going on. The picture goes along with the words. The format goes along with the rest of the poster. It has a bold message and a good picture.

Good- This poster is good because it shows all of the main characters so you kind of know what the movie is going to be about. The way the poster is put together is nice as well, the words are not in the way so they don't take your attention away from the designs.

Bad- This poster is bad because all of the words are capitalized. Also, some words are really big but some words are really small, so the small words are hard to read. And people's attention might just be focused on the big red circle on the poster, so they might not pay attention to the rest of it.

Good and Bad poster design Comparison

By: Jake Lancaster and Haley Newton

BAD:No color grasp whatsoever and words are not as legible as it should be. It is lacking a defined structural form to the poster and is overall poorly designed.

VS.

GOOD: Poster is well designed, readable, and the array of colors and fonts are sure to gain attention. This picture shows a good way of advertising by improving upon the previous design.

Bad- For the bad one the text is all the same font and thrown around the poster. This causes confusion about the title and what is the poster about. Also you can't quite focus on any of the words since it's not clear on what the info is

Good-It is visually appealing which draws your eye. The poster is simplistic and straight to the point. It uses Two symbols to make one image that tells you the main players in the movie

Not only does this poster relate to something we did in the past, but it's interesting to look at. From a distance you see Nick Cage's but when you look closely you can see that his face is made of an assortment of different colored bullets. (Bullets, obviously relating to the Cold War) The plain white background makes for a least distracting canvas for not only the image but for the words as well. (If the picture was of better quality of course) The small font around the picture serves as both a border and tells you the people behind the scenes. You can see the detail and thought put into this poster.

With this Fault in our Stars poster, you don't really get much in sight to what the movie is about. For people who have read the book they know what "Okay? Okay." represents so it  just serves as a inside joke. For someone interested in seeing the movie the they don't have the slightest thing to go off of. No actors, no title and no depth. Both thought bubbles are the exact same bubble, but with different colors. Also the bright blue in the background serves as an eye strain.  You can certainly tell that this was made by a beginner.

Good: In my opinion this poster is good because it gives you a small visual on what the movie will be about. From this poster you can tell that it is a scary movie and the leading role is a female. You can also infer that she might be two people in the same body, or may be possessed. The words in the poster really don't clash with the background. You can see that they used all dark colors because it is not a happy movie. They made it look as if it where dark and scary.

Bad: In my opinion this poster is bad because it is to simple and you cant really tell where they going with this movie. Most people know that Clark Kent is Super man, but what if i don't. This design will not make me want to see a movie about a pair of glasses. The design is simple and well made, but it doesn't really attach me to the poster.

This is a bad poster because unless you know what the movie is, there is no way of knowing what the movie is called or what it is about. There is very little color other than the white font and red blood. There is no contrast and The picture of the girl is way too much of a close up which does not give enough of a background for the entire poster. There might be some red blood that stands out but otherwise this poster is not very well done. This poster does not have a title of the film and all in all does not have enough information or detail to show what the movie is about Twisted Evil

This is a good poster because it has enough of a contrast in color and it has a very distinct character. The color scheme is the same through out making the whole poster stand out. The whole poster has a kind of drawn in feel like it was done with pencil which adds a slight detail, not too much detail to distract, but enough to define the letters and character. Both of these posters are posters for a horror film, but this poster makes it much more clear that it is a horror film and not anything else. The poster's character adds to the horror and the creepy message hints at the creepy plot of the film. Unlike in the other poster, this poster leaves a message that gives more of a hint to what the plot might be. Having a more descriptive and attention grabbing poster like this can show the viewer what the movie is about. pig

Bad:

This is way to cluttered, the images are poorly added. The words don't contrast with the background enough and the font is at times hard to read. They were sloppy with Photoshop and used clip art's cheesy photos.

Good:
http://i18.servimg.com/u/f18/19/01/87/88/the-br10.jpg
They use good Photoshop skills to make her look like she broke like glass. The image is high quality and fits the title. The words contrast with the background well.

Not only is this a great movie, the graphics on this poster is tremendous. It has great realistic features and automatically gives this sense of adventure just by looking at it. The creator of this picture put in a lot of detail to make everyone who sees the picture want to see the movie. That's why i think this is one of the best poster designs.
