Assignment 5: Weekly update 3/18/16

Post  Admin on Fri Mar 18, 2016 9:23 am

Part 1. Upload your new work from the last two (short) weeks. If it's photoshop work, upload it as a jpg, not a psd. If it's a movie file or animation, export and upload it in a compressed format (don't give me a file that requires me to open it in adobe premiere or final cut). You can upload to youtube and link it here.

Reflecting:

Part 2.Self-critique: What is working well in this week's work? What would you like to improve, or develop further?

Part 3. Identify new skills you worked on during the week. (For example, I know one student learned to rotate brushes in photoshop.)

Planning:

Part 4. Identify at least one new skill will you work on/develop next week.

1)

^ A series of Illustrator tutorials which a complete noob can accomplish.

2)

This week went well, aside from two things:
~ I need more photos for my personal yearbook; it's senior year I need to take more photos of myself and less of other people.
~ I need more texture images for stylized artwork which is becoming very popular in both magazine and video game media.

3)

I learned the basics of Adobe Illustrator, vector master.

4)

I will continue to work in Illustrator, and I might see how it works with a tablet.

I'm still using the liquify tool.
Right now, that all I've used.
Next week will be a new week.

Ok, so this was a weird week. I was asked to make a logo for my dad's friend's new business, and to do so, i was looking around for different tutorials to make some cool text and backgrounds. Here is the one I was following http://www.psd-dude.com/tutorials/wood-and-grass-text.aspx . But as I went along, I hit a spot that didn't translate to what I was working on too well. I would get to the second page and nothing would work correctly. How it was explained didn't help the process too much Crying or Very sad
So to counter this and get something done, I started working on the piece above. However, I'm not too happy with how its turning out as of right now. I was going to add some more details to the house, but i think I'm going to just start over...

2.) I do like that i started taking more details into account, like the color gradients from the sun and the shade that it produced. And while it could look a little better, I started using filters to make a reflective look to the water, which I feel adds to the logo.

3.) While I don't have the picture i was working on shown, I did learn that you can add effects to a layer by right clicking it and selecting blending options while following the tutorial mentioned previously.

4.) Next week, I'm going to look into pixel art so I can make a city landscape for my math project.

2. I like how the design came out, I'm overall pretty satisfied with the color scheme, etc.

3. I sharpened my graphic design skills in Photoshop. Additionally, I worked on some animation skills in After Effects for the TV announcement display.

4. Next week I hope to finish the 1 sheet (words and all) and work more on the TV announcement display.

I drew the hair with a softer airy strokes. I would like to improve the shadowing. I also removed all of the sketch lines from the layer underneathe the lion.
This week I learned how to crop the image.

This is just a quick sketch, I forgot my flash drive today and that had my main projects. Next week will be the real deal stuff. This drawing reminds me of those 30s portraits those nightclubs used to have.

For the week of the 18th I have been working on double exposure tricks in Photoshop

I have also been working on some drawing skills to scan in the scanner and use them for my calendar. They didn't upload the way I wanted them to, i think i am going to explore drawing with the tablet more.
