Assignment 11: Post work from Two GIMP tutorials here
You will be working with new software this week – “GIMP”. I’ve installed that on all the machines except the one that Lia and Bri use (technical internet problems on that one, they can use an empty computer).
This is a program very similar to photoshop, and the reason we are using it this week is so you are familiar with it, and know that you can download it for free at home. If you are ever in need of graphics software and can’t afford photoshop, this is a great alternative. If you already have photoshop at home, I would still like you to use this this week because learning your way around similar menus will help you learn to adapt to different software packages and software upgrades in general.
Like photoshop, this works with layers. There is a link to a set of GIMP tutorials here: http://www.noupe.com/gimp/30-exceptional-gimp-tutorials-and-resources.html
There are 30 to pick from, you should pick ones that interest them. By the end of the week, you should have 6 of the tutorials completed (2 for assignment 11, 2 for assignment 12, 2 for assignment 13). I'll be checking the forum during the evenings.
I'll be checking the forum during the evenings. If this turns out to be too much, if it takes longer than I expect for you all to figure out the new menus and work through the tutorials, let me know. Post your comments along with your work so I know how it's going. Without me being in the class, it's hard for me to judge if I can give you more work, or if I underestimated how long it would take. Talk to me!
You may want to pick the same tutorials as the person next to you, at least on the first day so you can see how it goes. That way if you are confused about the instructions, you can team up with another person and see if you can figure it out together. With the menus being new, it may help to work in teams (each person creating their own file, but talking through the steps together).
Each day you'll get a new thread for posting work from two new tutorials.
To save a file from GIMP for the web:
1. Go to File > save as >
2. You'll see a popup screen. You'll see a plus sign near the words "Select File Type." Click the plus sign, and scroll down to select jpg.
3. Hit save. You'll see a new popup screen that prompts you to export the file. Hit export. The next popup screen will ask you what quality you want to use. I would try about 50 (medium quality).

Gimp sketch tutorial

Thisis an oil painting I completed today it looks the way it does because I messed up on one of the steps and didn't have enough time to fix it.

If you were absent or sent me questions, I will reopen the thread for you to post late work.
I'm concerned that this class is not working productively this week. You are being held responsible for grades on this work. Report card grades need to be in the system April 1, my grades will be going in slightly early due to jury duty. You will not have much time to make up work after this week.
