Assignment 13: photo scavenger hunt VERT- or VERS- due Nov 8 (Monday)

Post  Admin on Wed Oct 27, 2010 8:19 am

Your word for this week is ... not a word! It's a word root, which you will turn into a word. From the science department, we have the prefix this week of Latin and Greek word roots (these come from Ms. Grant and the science department: Vert- or vers - (to turn)
If you need help getting started, there's a web page here with lots of suggestions for words based on these roots: http://www.english-for-students.com/vers.html

Assignment requirement: When you post your photo, explain what word you used based on this root, and how your photo relates to the word.

You will need to:
1. Make sure the image is in focus, without camera shake.
2. Consider composition, color, lighting and the creativity of your photo. (For creativity, take a moment to think of the most obvious and boring thing you could do with this word. Now think of something else that is less obvious, something that will surprise me in some way.
3.Save the image for the web (save as a jpg for photos, and rotate so it is upright if necessary). File should be no more than 600 pixels in either direction, and file size is 50k or less. Reply to this thread with a post that includes your photo.

Objectives:
Learning to think creatively within a set of guidelines (very typical of how we work in a design studio with clients)
Assessing your own photos (be your own quality control)
Practice working with file sizes and dimensions to help you become more conscious of how you are saving your files based on their intended use.
Cross-curricular objective: reinforcing vocabulary skills. This word is sponsored by Ms. Freeman.

Grading rubric:
4 points.
1 - Taking the photo in focus.
1 - Creative interpretation of the assignment.
1 - Color
1 - Composition
