Assignment 2: Quotations (typography)

Post  maryc on Mon Sep 12, 2011 11:50 am

My font is plain, simple. The quotation was said by Syd Barrett himself in the late 60's as he started to loose his mind to the drug scene. The font may be plain, cold, and boring but, thats what Sid him self was comming too. Plus, the type writers in the 1960's had fonts just like the style of font in the quotation. I feel as if Syd were too type out his quote, it would look just like the font above. The photo was edited by me to make it my own, but i found the orginal photo on google. Syd was a great artist and should be quoted more often, no matter what font.

Zach's favorite quote

Post  Zachary.M on Mon Sep 12, 2011 12:15 pm

But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

This quote has an important message of not being hard on yourself when you make mistakes, but it is said in a way that is funny.
It has cake represent life. I made the letters stretched out to make the font look humorous. I also made the font in different
layers so that the letters could go in different directions. I did this to show the whimsical feeling of the quote. I made the words into
a shape of a cake because this is the word used in the quote and to make it light-hearted.

My font selection conveys the mood of the quote because i made it look a little messy, to make the quote stand out more. The quote is from a band and it reminds me of "eye for an eye" and "do to others as you wish to be done to you". it explains a lot of the things i've been through, destroy something or someone before it has the chance to do so itself.

The font I chose to use represents youth and playfulness.
Most of its placement is simple except for part of the quote
that is italicized and tilted to fit the girls arm. This part of the
quote and its placement is an important part to showing
the overall mood that the quote portrays.

I used an image from Morguefile: http://mrg.bz/u6dVmK

"But you know happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the lights."
The font I chose fits because it's simple and it flows well which conves the mood of the quote, simple enough but nice and flowy. The placement of the text is meant to look like smoke coming form the candle which also adds to the flow of the idea.

I thought this would be the best font choice due to it not being exponentially plain, as well as it mimicked the swishy lines in the background of the background. I placed the text in each half to represent the side they refer to, the green text referring to the hand, open for shaking another hand, is above said hand. The same applies for the fist (even though it's under it~), and with the fist I capitalized the letters to make them look more menacing, thus showing the difference between the two. That's also why I picked opposite colors for each side. I took the photos for this myself, only of the hands/forearms. The rest is just graphics work in photoshop.

My fonts actually represent different parts of the Quote. For "Beauty get Attention" I though I needed something bold && noticable so what I was going for was kind of a in your face type of font. Then for the "But Personality captures the Heart" I thought it was more soft && sweet but also unique in a way so the font I chose was something simple but elegant.Overall I think this Quote should be recognized more because for its truthfulness && Honesty.

I didn't really do anything with the style or color of the font, but my picture and quote by abraham lincoln to me really explained the message I was trying to convey. My picture is showing a man who has a tattoo of the september 11 attacks and the loved ones he lost that day.
