Assignment 22: Brochure design due Dec 9
Design a brochure to go along with the company identity you created with your business card.
You will either design the inside or the outside of it, you don't need to do both. The file will be 8.5 inches tall, 12 inches wide. (It's common to size a brochure to 11 inches wide, but we're using 12 to make it easier for you to divide it into thirds.) Because these are for print, we will use a higher resolution, 300 dpi. (Dots per inch)
All graphics and photos used must be your own. Use Lorem Ipsum for the text.
Design issues to consider:
Hierarchy of Information. Make the important information stand out. (use headlines as appropriate.)
White space and margins - don't run your text to the edge of the paper or up to the edges of the fold lines. You may want to increase your line spacing by one or two points for white space. (If your font is 12 point, the line spacing might be 14 point.)
Font size - paragraphs should look like magazine text (size 12, maybe size 10 depending on the font). Remember the ideal number of characters per line from the article we read about line spacing and typography. Headlines and slogans may be larger, but avoid making the entire brochure look like it's from an elementary school.
Alignment of elements. Use guidelines to align paragraphs and images as needed.
Contrast - don’t give me yellow text on a white background.
Legibility. Use fonts that can be read easily - don't use a decorative font for paragraphs.
Repetition of design elements. There should be a clear style that is consistent and recognizable no matter which panel I'm looking at.
Design to the whole page. Remember the examples I showed in class. Many had long horizontal elements or curves that pulled the eye through the brochure, instead of being designed to each individual panel. When the paper is unfolded, it should look one design, not three separate ones.
Color scheme. There should be a clearly identifiable color scheme beyond "every crayon in the box."
9 points total (one for each item on the list above.)
