Hi All—

Michigan Youth Theater (MYT) is holding auditions for its fall production, "The Picture of Dorian Gray," by Robert Kauzlaric, based on Oscar Wilde's book.

MYT is a teen theater group, volunteer run, exclusively for teens aged 12 to 19, located in Oakland County , the only one of its kind in Michigan -- michiganyouththeater.org. MYT's mission statement is:

**We believe that every young person possesses both the desire and the capability for excellence in their achievements, leading to self respect and respect for others. We believe that training in the theater arts is an invaluable advantage in today's world where communication is key, and where teamwork is what it takes to get the job done. Through the integrated arts discipline of theater performance, youth will develop personal expression skills, a sense of responsibility, integrity, problem-solving skills, and time-management skills. Theater provides a venue to articulate hopes and fears, share problems, and develop plans to overcome them while working cooperatively with others. Through theater, young people learn to ACT ON THEIR DREAMS .**

In support of our mission statement, MYT finds a role for everyone who auditions. Auditions are not auditions in the traditional sense, as their purpose is to see what role would best suit the auditioning teen, to aid him or her in growth, no matter his or her level of experience. There is no prep work needed ahead of time or prepared monologues needed. Teens just come and participate. However, we do have a cap for this show of 30 teens , first come, first serve. The first 30 teens registered (including payment) for the play receive roles. Also, any teen interested in learning and doing tech only (lights and sound) may join and does not fall under the 30-teen cap. They should also attend auditions to participate.

MYT performs drama and comedy, selecting scripts that are both significant and meaningful to our teens and audiences alike. Our teens take on plays that traditionally adult theater groups perform. Be sure to check out our web site ( michiganyouththeater.org ) for a list of past productions. We always ask anyone interested in participating to take a look at the play ahead of time, so there are no thematic or language surprises. You may download the first 70 pages for free (out of a script total of only 75 pages or so), meaning you get to read most of the play. The link is: http://www.playscri pts.com/play. php3?playid= 1654 , and you just click Read Free Sample on the right side of the page.

We also ask for interested teens to preregister for auditions by September 12 end of day. There's no prepayment involved in preregistration, just an email stating the teen's name, age, and contact information (and whether he or she would like to act or do tech). This allows us to let folks know when we're getting close to our maximum teen-participant number. Of course, even if you don't preregister, we still encourage teens to come to the auditions. To preregister, or for more information, email either Lisa Alfelt at lisa@alfeltdesign.com or Kathy Miller at antiquemills@wideopenwest. com.

• Preregister: By Mon., Sept. 12, end of day via email (addresses above).
